Detroit City Michigan Distillery creates small-batch artisanal whiskey, gin and vodka with local ingredients sourced from farms near the downtown Detroit tasting room and distillery. The company’s heritage harkens back to when the historic location served as the go-to site for alcohol production in the city. Having been home to Goebel Brewery and Stroh’s Ice Cream, the Whiskey Factory’s rich history creates an ambiance of heritage at the urban two-story cocktail bar and distillery.

The Detroit City team of eight childhood friends bonded over a bachelor party campfire and shared an entrepreneurial spirit. Their business model aims to bring craft spirits to the masses while giving back to their community. With this in mind, they launched their flagship product Bloodline Whiskey and later created other products like Valentine Vodka – named the World’s Best Vodka in the 2016 World Vodka Competition.

When the COVID-19 outbreak hit, Detroit City adapted their facility in 72 hours to produce large amounts of hand sanitizer for frontline workers across the region. By leveraging Pure Michigan Business Connect’s (PMBC) COVID-19 Procurement Platform, Detroit City was able to get their product into the hands of those who needed it most much sooner than they would have otherwise.

The cocktail menu is broken up into vodka, gin and moonshine sections so you can try something different every time you visit. A crowd favorite is Topsy’s Revenge – a juicy, easy-to-sip summer cocktail made with Weiss Royal Rum, grapefruit cardamom syrup, orange liqueur and citric acid. The drink is served in a literal elephant glass and topped with tasty chili-salt.
